Custom Oral Appliances Help Support More Restful, Restorative Sleep

Understanding sleep breathing

What Is Snoring and Sleep Apnea?

Waking up tired after a full night in bed is one of the clearest signs that your breathing is being interrupted during sleep. Obstructive sleep apnea occurs when the soft tissues at the back of your throat relax and block the airway, cutting off oxygen dozens of times a night. We treat it with a custom oral appliance, a small device worn like a retainer that holds your lower jaw slightly forward so air keeps flowing.

Dental sleep medicine is Dr. Jadeja’s focus, and she learns and collaborates with the sleep medicine team at the UCLA School of Dentistry. Patients treated for sleep apnea in Salem at White Sage Dentistry can receive an FDA-approved appliance fitted to their own bite.

Sleep Breathing Care

Our Snoring & Sleep Apnea Services

Snoring and sleep apnea can disrupt your rest, focus, mood, and your partner’s sleep. Reviewing these services helps you understand possible next steps, from learning more about your breathing patterns to exploring a custom oral appliance with Dr. Shruti Jadeja.
Home sleep studies can record breathing patterns during sleep, helping identify signs of obstructive sleep apnea and informing a conversation about appropriate care.
A custom, FDA-approved oral appliance holds your lower jaw slightly forward as you sleep, keeping your airway open without a mask, hose, or machine.
Custom oral appliances can help keep your airway open, reduce snoring, and support more restful sleep with a small device designed around your teeth.

Wake Up Ready For Life

Benefits of Snoring & Sleep Apnea Treatments

When disrupted breathing keeps your nights from feeling restorative, the effects can follow you into every part of the day. Snoring and sleep apnea care can help you move toward more restful nights and renewed well-being. As you explore these benefits, you may discover how meaningful healthy sleep can feel for you and those closest to you.

Wake up Feeling More Refreshed

Morning grogginess can make the day feel difficult before it begins. With improved nighttime rest, you may wake feeling more refreshed and ready to handle work, family responsibilities, and the plans you have been looking forward to.
Loud snoring can disturb both you and your sleep partner. Reducing nighttime noise may create a calmer bedroom, helping you share more peaceful nights and making bedtime feel less stressful for everyone.
Poor sleep can leave you dragging through errands, meetings, or time with family. More restorative nights may help you feel more alert and energized, so you can participate fully instead of simply trying to get through the day.
Interrupted sleep can affect concentration, memory, and attention. When your nights become more restful, you may find it easier to stay focused during conversations, complete tasks, and make decisions without fighting constant daytime fatigue.
Sleep concerns should not keep you from visiting family, taking a trip, or enjoying a weekend away. A convenient approach to care can fit more easily into your routine, giving you greater freedom to maintain healthy sleep habits wherever life takes you.
Sleep apnea affects more than nighttime comfort and can influence mood and overall health. Addressing your symptoms may support a healthier daily rhythm, helping you feel more balanced, engaged, and prepared to care for yourself over time.

Frequently asked questions

Snoring & Sleep Apnea FAQs

Questions about snoring and sleep apnea treatment in Salem are common, especially when loud snoring, fatigue, or restless sleep affects you or your partner. We explain how custom oral appliances may fit into care, and we invite you to reach out with anything not covered below.

How does an oral appliance help with snoring & sleep apnea?

A custom oral appliance gently moves your lower jaw forward while you sleep. This can help keep soft tissues from blocking your airway, which may reduce snoring and support more consistent breathing. Dr. Shruti Jadeja will explain whether this approach fits your needs.
Oral appliances are often considered for people who snore or have mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea. They may not suit severe or complex cases. We review your concerns and coordinate with your healthcare provider when needed before discussing a custom appliance.
Most patients need a few days to adjust to a custom-fit appliance. Mild discomfort or extra saliva can occur at first, then often settles as your mouth adapts. Our appliance is shaped to your teeth, and we can address concerns during follow-up visits.
Some patients notice quieter snoring or improved sleep within a few days to a few weeks. Your experience can vary based on your symptoms and how consistently you wear the appliance. Follow-up visits help us check the fit and make adjustments when needed.
CPAP uses a mask and steady airflow to keep the airway open. An oral appliance is smaller, portable, and worn in the mouth while you sleep. It may be an alternative for some patients, while others may use it alongside CPAP or lifestyle changes.
Clean your appliance daily with a soft toothbrush and mild soap or a specialized cleaning solution. Rinse it thoroughly and let it air dry. Check for wear or damage, and bring it to routine visits so we can monitor its condition and fit.
You should wear the appliance whenever you sleep, as directed. Oral appliance therapy may be ongoing for as long as sleep apnea remains a concern. Regular dental visits allow us to monitor your appliance, teeth, and comfort over time.
We begin by discussing your sleep concerns, symptoms, and treatment history. If an oral appliance may help, we explain how it works, what adjustment feels like, and how to care for it. Dr. Shruti Jadeja can also discuss how it may fit with other care.
You can share your worries with us before choosing treatment. We explain each step in plain language and make sure the appliance is custom-fitted to your mouth. Starting with clear expectations and follow-up support can make the adjustment feel more manageable.
Untreated obstructive sleep apnea can interrupt breathing and reduce restorative sleep. It is associated with concerns such as daytime fatigue, poor concentration, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes, and depression. We encourage you to discuss symptoms with a qualified healthcare provider and explore appropriate care.
